2025 Oct. 18 with watchmaker Wang Da Wei, in Qinhuangdao, Shandong.
Mr. Wang is a top-level watchmaker/designer in Qinhuangdao, so although I hope this post has general interest, there's gonna be a whole whack of wristwatch/clock geekery going on, too.
Please meet Mr. Wang Da Wei, taken in the workshop area of his business, followed by the gorgeous Jintuofei tourbillon watch Mr. Wang was wearing when we met.

But first, because I'm cruel, are photos of the mouth-watering lunch that Mr. Wang and his wife hosted at a nearby local restaurant, shown below the food. A beautiful asian stew surrounded by a bread crust. Hot and very savoury.
The next photo is the entryway description of the floors/departments sign of the Chinese department mall where Mr. Wang's shop is located.
The photo following is the entrance to Mr. Wang's 5th/top floor shop.
And the next were taken in his shop.
The goldtone watch with the white dial is a prototype of a watch designed by Mr. Wang, The caseback has a window with rotating characters that depict a journey of an ancient Emperor, Qin Shi Huang who toured the Qinhungdao area, searching for immortality during the time of the Qin emperors.
The building on the caseback depicts the First Pass of the Great Wall, located in Shanhaiguan, which is located in Qinhuangdao (see video below of the window and the great wall caseback design).
In this video he demonstrates a double tourbillon with a special second hand he designed.
The next photo is my mentor Li Wei of the China Horologe Association, Mr. Wang and his wife, and me with a grin because...
Mr. Wang gifted me the prototype!!
The next video was shot by Mr. Wangs wife, and Mr. Wang kindly posted it to his Wechat profile, with 2 following photos showing a caption he placed on it, and the translation.
The day in Qinhuangdao ended with a lovely meal with Mr. Wang, his wife and Li Wei--and we got chatting, He and his wife (a respected local physician) are ultra-friendly, smart and generous, and it was a real pleasure meeting both.
But I was (I hope understandably) tired, so I was distracted: no food photos.
But I do have this last short clip where I put a "Canada" maple leaf pin on Mr. Wang's jacket :-)
Then, after a friendly good-bye, it was a two hour fast train trip back to Beijing, and where Li Wei and I had a business class compartment to ourselves.
The cabin shot was taken by the super-friendly train attendant, and the shot of me in the train window was taken by Mr. Li.
Here's some additional cultural content. The next photos were taken during the afternoon at Mr. Wang's shop--but were shot walking around the other shops on same top/fifth floor of the building .
Closing off, and for context, here's some photos taken same day while driving around Qinhuangdao. Lovely city.
