Donald Andrew Good

In Loving Memory of
Donald Andrew Good and Alison de Longueuil Good

Donald Andrew Good
1921 - 2009

Donald Andrew Good was born Feb. 25, 1921 in Denzil, Saskatchewan and died Aug. 12, 2009 in Nanaimo, B.C.

Our Dad had a remarkable and busy life, bringing an easy laugh and serious dedication to his family and to careers as diverse as flight instructor and fighter plane pilot, grocery store owner, employment development worker, rehabilitation consultant, and front counter person at MacDonald's (at which he proudly won the Employee of the year award at the age of 68).

Throughout his working life he demonstrated to his family and friends that all work is valuable, has dignity and is worthy of our best efforts; getting as close as he ever did to what people call retiring at 78.

He always put his family first and up until his last day was assisting his sons in the daily operation of their business. As a father, there could be few equals in that he never merely talked about values but instead exemplified them, day by day, every day of his life.

Dad enjoyed a 61 year love affair with his wife, our mother, Alison and they were at all times passionately, actively and openly clear in their love for each other. Dad would find almost any excuse to get a rose for Mom and, knowing it was the simple truth, always signed it "All my love, forever, Don ".

He always acted honourably as, in his view, there was no alternative. He saw the best in all people, always treating them as special and encouraging them to achieve.

Dad is lovingly survived by his wife, our mother, Alison, son Donald Good Jr. and wife Linda, son Ronald Good, daughter Lori Camire and husband Victor, Grandchildren Graeme, Michaela, Rachel, Becky and Eric.

Friends and neighbours were invited to attend an Open House Saturday, August 22 between 1:00 and 3:00 at 5938 Devon Place, Nanaimo, BC. Interment was at Yates Funeral Services, Parksville, BC

Alison de Longueuil Good (nee Garrett) was born September 18, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario and died January 2, 2013 in Nanaimo, B.C. Family came first to our Mom. She was very willing, when it was needed, to work outside the home but home was where she wanted to be, providing and caring for us all. None of us ever missed a meal, nor went to bed hungry or cold or unloved, and she never let the sun set on a disagreement. Every morning was a fresh start with a smiling face and a great breakfast. Mom loved knowledge and words and always had a dictionary and encyclopedia close by. She stayed involved in current events and was willing to discuss any subject, anytime. Later in her life she was amazed at the Internet and the ability to look everything up on a computer. Learning was very important to her and she continued to read, listen, watch and learn up to her last day. She had strong values but was very willing to let others live their lives as they saw fit. She taught us to respect everyone, and to look for the good in all people. One thing she would never accept was the undignified treatment of anyone. The three of us kids understand that we have always lived in a very strong and close family, and we are very aware that the good memories, happiness and joy we have between us still are blessings founded on values provided by our parents. Mom shared a 61 year love affair with her husband, our Dad, Don, and she said many times "How many women get to have 61 years with the man of their dreams?" She told us that her greatest hope was to be with Dad again and how she looked forward to that day. They shared those many years together and now, after a short break, they start again, together always. The man of her dreams, Donald Andrew Good, prepared the way for her on August 12, 2009. Mom is lovingly survived by her daughter Lori Camire and husband Victor, son Donald Good Jr. and wife Linda, son Ronald Good, grandchildren Graeme, Michaela, Rachel, Becky and Eric.
