AviatorUSA Travel Jeans Review
Disclaimer: no compensation, no affiliation. Just a satisfied customer. TL/DR: Recommended with confidence. I hunted for a good long while to find travel pants that look like regular blue jeans. I mean, I like modern fabrics, and I wear technical clothing any time it will help me, but just because I'm travelling doesn't mean I always want to look like a cross between military and summer camp. I wanted comfortable jeans that looked like jeans--and AviatorUSA delivered. As I wrote on their website, I took two pairs of jeans on my 2019 China trip (one Dark Indigo for "dressier" and one Medium Indigo for casual/unobtrusive). That's it--two pairs of jeans, three shirts, some socks and underwear, some usual essentials and I was good to go for the entire month in China. I did the entire trip with a small shoulder bag and a 22" Travelpro suitcase. I can finally travel light. |
A USA Today review called Aviator Jeans "The Best Travel Jeans in the World" I think that's true. I tried others and nothing else came close. These jeans are flexible, strong, light to wear, breathable, suitable for temperatures from hot to cool, and from dry to humid. And they fit like I expected. They don't need constant washing and they dry pretty quickly, too. I hand washed my Aviators when needed, and they always dried overnight. What do I like best? I like that people who pay attention to jeans will think you're wearing good quality, well-cut jeans, and the people that don't pay attention to jeans won't pay any attention at all, because these look like jeans. They feel better than regular jeans (try 'em. you'll see) but they look normal. Like jeans. And: security? They have secure zippered pockets that don't advertise being zippered pockets, and also don't set off airport scanners. The zippers are strong and easy to handle, and out of plain sight--and they're hard to tamper with. Like you'd want. |
I'm 71, 5'9" tall, about 160lbs, and these are straight cut jeans, 33 waist. I had Aviator do the 31" hems, and they're spot on. Exactly right.
Yes, these are more expensive than some other jeans--but these aren't like those other jeans. I usually pay about $30 for my jeans, but because regular jeans can be insufferably hot, especially in southern China during their humid summers, I splurged and ordered a pair , hoping they were up to description and could help me out.
Now I have fivepairs.
These were exactly the travel jeans I'd hoped for, secure and very comfortable. So comfortable, they even made long economy plane flights OK (Vancouver to Shanghai, for example, is about 12 hours, give or take). I'm like another reviewer: if I fly, I'll wear these, always.
I also did lots of walking, climbing and activities. Lots of at least 15-20 km days, temperatures ranging from lows around 5°C/40°F, to highs of 40° C/100°F, with humidity ranging up to 70-80%. These were fine for all of that.
