AMCHPR China Tour 2018 - April 26 - Jinan, Shandong Day 2
Baotu Spring, Hero Hill Culture Market, Jinan's Furong Jie Food & Market area, Quancheng Road area at night...
Day 2 in Jinan: I was up after a very restful sleep, and hit the streets at about 10AM. I headed straight through the neighbourhood to Jinan's Baotu Spring Park...
...and right across the street from the Park entrance, I ran into these buskers (and I should have taken a longer video, I liked the music), dropped a couple of bills in their collection box, and then headed into the Park...
The park is below where the person is pointing. She's pointing on the map to the entrance she just passed, shown above)
The big blue lakes above, nearer the top of the map, are Daming and Xiaodong Lakes, that we visited last post. The whole white section surrounded by the lakes and the green "moat" are what I'm referring to as "the neighbourhood".
(To get an idea, and if I remember correctly, the walk between her finger and the Daming Lake entrance at the top--on the upper corner of the white area, same side and above her finger--is about an easy 15 minute walk. From the left side Daming lake entrance to the Furong Jie Food and Market Area is maybe 10 minutes if you turn immediately right, and around 3 easy hours if you walk entirely around both lakes. The food market is the green area that breaks up the white. I marked Daming Lake, Xiaodong lake, the food market and the hotel on the photo.)
Just before I left the park, I saw this display...
So, it was about 12:30, just after noon, and I decided to try to find a second hand market. A quick internet search and then a 15 minute taxi ride got me to the entrance of Jinan's Yingxiongshan/Heroes Mountain Culture Market. This video shows the entrance gate and the surroundings...
The Heroes Mountain Culture Market has covered and open air sections...
I did find one watch seller, but the store wasn't open, which was probably best f0r my wallet anyways ;-)
The next two shots were taken as I left the Culture Market area. There's a residential area just below the market, and the third shot is some school kids headed somewhere (home?)
I grabbed another cab, and headed back to my "home" neighbourhood for some more very relaxed walking around.
Exercise equipment on the street is commonplace in China, and this set is an excellent example of what you'll find. Although not used so much in the daytime--which is when I saw this location--these things get used lots in the cool of later afternoons and evening.
It was getting to later afternoon, and I was getting hungry so I headed to the food area I'd seen yesterday, eager to try some new stuff...
How much did I enjoy the food? I was so into it, I didn't even think about shooting it :-)
and..it was getting somewhat darker when I finished eating, so I headed back to the hotel to freshen up...
...stopping to take a few more photos of this place I'd seen yesterday...
...and grabbing about an hour and a half of just sitting around at the hotel, before heading out on another "expedition"...more night shooting in Jinan.
(But that's not where I had yesterday's pizza.)
And I will leave you all, for now, with this wonderful sight...
Next stop, next post: Tianjin.
